RAW MATERIAL
Ecklonia maxima, one of the fastest growing brown seaweed species, grows only at the South-West Coast of South Africa. This seaweed is rich in natural biostimulants, that enhance plant growth, and are the foundation of the effects of the extract applications.
SOURCE
Ecklonia maxima is sustainably harvested in Gansbaai, in the Cape Province of South Africa. Far from large harbours and potential pollution, this area is a sanctuary for whales and other marine life. The cold and tumultuous Benguela current that flows here provides the seaweed with rich nutrients. Ecklonia maxima thrives in these conditions, growing extremely fast in this favourable environment.
SUSTAINABILITY
Ecklonia maxima fronds are cut from the top. This ensures plant regrowth is not disturbed, maintaining the longevity of the seaweed forests.
QUALITY SELECTION
Only the highest quality seaweed is selected and carefully hand-picked for our liquid extract production.
COLD MICRONISATION PROCESS (CMP)
The seaweed is gently treated without harmful chemicals or harsh temperatures, to retain its important active compounds. It is mechanically processed by our unique CMP method. The process releases the natural plant biostimulants into a solution which is finely filtered to remove unwanted particles larger than 30 microns from the extracts. The preserved solution is a natural, phyto-biostimulant-rich concentrate. NO HARMFUL ADDITIVES: NO harmful chemicals, heat or freezing methods are used.
COMPLETE FRESHNESS
The freshly harvested seaweed is immediately processed to preserve all its essential compounds. The process, from ocean to liquid concentrate, is completed within 8 hours.
CONSISTENT QUALITY
We analyse and standardise every batch of the extract to consistently produce the highest quality liquid seaweed extract. Samples are taken of each batch and sent to independent expert labs to assess the biostimulant levels. Standardisation is done according to these results to ensure that each batch is of consistent quality and provides optimal results.
BLENDING
The liquid seaweed extracts are blended at our state-of-the-art blending facility in Cape Town to ensure that all biostimulant levels are as per specification before packaging.
QUALITY CONTROL
Our internal quality lab tests each batch to ensure its efficacy. Independent labs regularly conduct quality checks to control the composition and shelf life of our concentrates. Every batch is guaranteed to create at least over 50% more roots during quality testing on our test plants. This step ensures that you can trust Afrikelp to consistently deliver quality liquid seaweed extracts that create certainty in an ever-changing agricultural environment.
